Our History

The foundation for this leading training institute was laid by Mr. Mahesh Kumar Mishra, a retired senior government bureaucrat of the Madhya Pradesh cadre. But Mr. Mishra was always an educationist at heart. Before taking over the government assignment, he served as a teacher for a decade from 1952 to 1962 in leading institutes of Indore like Biyawani and Barabhai School, Nutan Higher Secondary School and one of the oldest Maharaja Shivaji Rao Higher Secondary School.

Mr. Mishra began the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial (S.G.M.) Institute in the heart of city - Rajwada - in the year 1980. The motto of the institution was to inculcate among students, apart from academic skills sets, a deeper understanding of human and moral values for socially responsible behaviour.

The institute initially operated as a Bal Vikas Centre for empowering the young minds which have wavered from the path of human and social values. In the inception phase, Bal Vikas Classes focusing on academics were held. Soon weekly study circle programme was started.  Along side, Mr. Mishra also included the social mission of meals to the underprivileged and lepers.

His pioneering work in the field of helping people join the mainstream through education and charity was acknowledged by various national and international organizations including the honourable late President of India Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, who was then the Health Minister of the Madhya Pradesh Government.

The seed sown by him has now developed into a large tree deep rooted in the soil of education, training and social responsibility.
